Dimitri Gvindadze

Dimitri Gvindadze was appointed as Minister of Finance of Georgia on 20 June 2011.

He was born in Tbilisi in 1973. He graduated with honors from Tbilisi Technical University, where he earned Master’s Degree in Civil and Industrial Engineering in 1995, from Diplomatic Academy in Paris, Faculty of International Politics in 1998; and from International Institute of Social Studies in Hague (with honors) in 2001, where he studied International Relations and Development. In 2003-2005, he studied in US at the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he earned Master’s Degree in Public Administration / International Economic Development. In August-December 2007 he completed a course of Financial Programming and Policies at the International Monetary Fund Institute.

In 1994-2003 Mr. Gvindadze worked on various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. Since July 2005 he held position of Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia. He was directly responsible for external financing and external public debt management, for coordinating cooperation with International Financial Institutions and bilateral donors and representing Georgia in the governing bodies of International Financing Institutions.

In 2005-2006 he was reading lectures in Macroeconomics at the Caucasus School of Business and Tbilisi State University. In 2005 he was a teaching assistant at Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government (Course on Macroeconomic Theory and Policy). He has completed internships in various international organizations and has received government scholarships of USA, Netherlands and France. He has a wife, Maia Kvaliashvili and two daughters. He speaks English, French and Russian.
