Robert Whieldon

Rob is the Corporate Development Director for Leeds University Business School with a remit to develop education and development programs for businesses. He is currently responsible for managing the SME Knowledge Network@Leeds.

Between 1996 and 2009 he worked as Business Manager for the Centre for the Development of Healthcare Policy & Practice (CDHPP) in addition to his role as a Programme Facilitator - his area of specialism is strategic leadership development in the public sector, and he is trained to use the Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA™) suite of diagnostic tools. Employing a range of techniques (such as Action Learning, Appreciative Inquiry) he has designed and facilitated workshops to support individuals, from a range of sectors, in their leadership development. He has a particular interest in exploring how the different generations in the workforce can work together to improve job satisfaction and effective working relationships.

He has managed a number of projects for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), Regional Development Agencies and the Northern Leadership Academy (NLA). These include:
• NLA ‘think tank’ (a collaboration between Leeds, Liverpool and Lancaster Universities)
• Developed and managed 2 NLA Fellowship programs (one supporting PhD students researching leadership, the other supporting PhD students researching business survival and sustainability)
• A network of 10 Business Schools across the north of England providing development programs for SMEs
• A network of Business Schools in Yorkshire & Humberside providing development programs for SMEs
• The Leadership Journeys program for manufacturing SMEs in the Leeds City Region.
Prior to joining the University of Leeds Rob worked in the field of workforce planning both in the public (NHS) and the finance sector (Building Society).
